2008 Intro to Timber Framing: Square Rule Method
Instructors: Joshua Thornton and Steve Walker
This workshop was held at Neorganic Farms near Collingwood, ON.
Participants learned both the mill rule and line rule method of
layout, which are variants of the square rule layout method. At
the cutting stage, participants primarily used hand tools to execute
the joinery.
Fresh-from-the-farm organic lunches were served daily by the farm.
The results of this project was a 12' x 20' living quarters for
WWOOF-ers on the farm. WWOOF
stands for Willing Workers On Organic Farms or World Wide Opportunities
on Organic Farms which exchanges volunteer labour for room and
board (and other learning opportunities) and to promote organic
farming – both in its diversity and its larger culture.
This international organization helps to link people interested
in organic farming to local and international farms.
